Head Bands on Hijabs (Part 6 of 8)

Just a quick blog about head bands on scarf’s, I was down in London recently and it was absolutely freezing! My ears were totally frozen over! This inspired me to go for ear muffs and head bands to keep my ears warm.

I was also on the hunt for a woolly hat I could wear over a Hijab, nothing actually suited the shape of my head (I have however seen some Hijabi sisters really rocking the look though). I do adore the hats with ears at the moment though, I reckon they look too cute!

The bands I am wearing are actually in Primark now for under £5.

Cardigan on sale now from Republic for £40 (click here)

Also, in H&M they are selling these cool colourful mittens for only £4! they are full sleave and fingerless for practicality, they look super cute with everything :-)

Winter picks: Mixing leather and shearling (Part 5 of 8)

I think every autumn/winter/spring wardrobe needs a staple leather jacket - but the best part is in winter you get to warm it up with shearling. They can be expensive, but I got this real leather jacket in the ASOS sale last year (£60 down from £120!). Luckily the sales are about to kick in (ASOS sale starts today, other high st stores soon!), so look out for similar bargains. Best of all, leather can be dressed up or down. In my photo it's a very casual look, paired with a T-shirt & some casual trousers from Primark and Converses. However, leather can also polish off a dinner/going out outfit very easily!

My rules:

  • Firstly, I would always choose real leather over fake. It may cost more at the outset, but you can tell the quality and will last many, many more years.
  • Secondly, look out for something classic. Leather can look cheap (especially if it's not real), so go for something which looks like it will be able to be worn 5 years down the line.
  • Thirdly, my one has a detachable shearling collar, so I can create a completely new look from the same jacket in different seasons. 2 in 1, saves money!
  • Fourth, as most leather jackets are short, you will have to pair with loose trousers and/or a longer top to cover your butt.
  • Fifth.. don't feel you have to stick to black. For ages before I bought this one from ASOS, I was eyeing up this brown one from River Island here (picture below). However, it was out of my budget at the time (it's now £120 down from £150). This other one from Urban Code at ASOS is also beautiful! £130.

Urban Code at ASOS, £130
River Island, £120

Winter picks: I Heart Ponchos (Part 4 of 8)

One of my fav winter pieces would have to be my knitted Primark poncho! Which is £15 in store now! This is great for keeping warm and covered up out and about.

The shape of a poncho is also ideal for staying modest as it floats over your frame which ensures all your lady lumps and bumps are covered! (good times!)

I have been keeping a look out for you girls and found some amazing ponchos currently online and on the high street for cheap prices!

Check out this one at H&M (and online – click here), its ONLY £6.99! (On sale) It actually would be a crime not to order one; it comes in a standard size so you don’t even have to worry about fitting. I am in love with the maroon one! You could team it up with some light jeans, boots and matching plain Hijab.

If you’re really in to Tribal print, this brown Aztec print poncho is awesome! It is online at River Island for £20! (Half price in the sale – click here). Again another great bargain!

You will find Ponchos at pretty much any store ranging from different prices. I do think they are a winter must have, as you can dress them up for evening dinner or dress down for a casual day out.
I think one of the negatives about knitwear and Hijab is knitwear prints can be hard to match with a Hijab. One of my golden rules is ‘pattered top = plain Hijab’ or ‘plain top = patterned hijab’.Unfortunately for me my range of ‘100's of hijabs’ they all (majority) seem to have prints! :-S I will be getting myself in store and get more shades of plain colours! J

Winter picks: The (Faux!) Fur Coat (Part 3 of 8)

Topshop jacket + skirt
Winter = wrap up like a polar bear time!! What better way to warm you up from the winter chill than looking fabulous in fur! I've wanted a faux fur coat for ages and found this one in the Topshop petite section. It's super warm and cosy and because it's quite thick and heavy, hides your shape well. It costs £89 and is almost sold out on the website but they are likely to still have some in shops. I would match with a very simple hijab. Fur can easily look trashy if you try and add in too much other bling and distractions. Keep everything simple and plain.

My one I paired with a long dark purple skirt, also from Topshop. I actually found this in the sale a few weeks for, for £20 down from £40. Love a bargain!!

Here are a few other fur coats I've spotted:
Expensive: £146 from Coast at ASOS
Middle-range: £69.99 from Zara or this one, £59.99, also Zara
Bargain!: £29.99 from New Look
Let us know if you've seen any others you love!

Our top winter picks! (Part 2 of 8)

Crafted Cape Jacket
I am a big fan of cape jackets this year, I think for modesty it really works. They are pretty funky and keep your shape well hidden. The big hood is an additional bonus too; I think it really pulls the outfit together.

The one I am wearing at the moment is from REPUBLIC and is now on sale for £20! (click here). Not many sizes left in the orange, but you will find similar ones on sale (click here).

I have matched my orange cape with an orange/cream tribal Hijab (from H&M £7.99); the scarf is actually in store now, there are a number of colours in this design available! The fabric is really Hijab friendly too.

As the jacket is short, I have teamed up with my wardrobe staple, loose harem pants. Boohoo actually have a great cheap range (click here), they are pretty thin so for winter I would recommend tights/leggings to be worn under.

I am also in love with this one Stolen Crinkle Cape (click here); this will be my next purchase after pay day!

Mac Hooded Jacket
Great fit, shape and extremely comfy, Ideal for a casual day! I got the jacket from REPUBLIC (again), actually no longer in store.
I did find a similar one here from Fire Trap (click here).

The Hijab I am wearing is a snood (bought by accident from H&M); basically I have a plain cream Hijab and drooped this over in a hooded shape. I can’t wait to get more knitted ones (I will blog them soon); they create a great shape over a Hijab!

Red Jersey Snood Jacket
This has been my best buy last month, for only £25 in the sale! They actually have black, beige and jade still online (click here), be quick though, only a few sizes left!

Loving the massive hood and the loose fitting, not a big fan of belts (I feel they pull in too much shape for me) but you can tie loosely behind. The little red riding hood look is pretty retro too (click here for a very similar jacket in red). Red also looks great with loose black harem pants.

Lastly - Had to talk about my funky heels called 'Hafen' from Aldo (click here). I cant help taking them out the box and smiling! I bought them for £80, but discovered they are on sale now for £55!! I even managed to find a matching clutch (LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!). I think my New Year ’s Eve outfit is sorted!

Our top winter picks! (Part 1 of 8)

Some people have been messaging us asking us for winter tips – our suggestions for cardigans, coats and more. Me and Nadyah will be giving you our top winter ideas with a new blog every few days. This is part 1 of 8!

I'll kick off with a few of my fav winter knits..

I love this from the ‘Only’ brand at New Look – I love patterned cardigans and knits – always a little bit funkier than something plain! The colours on this are amazing and the cardigan is definitely toasty warm. I would match with a hijab of one of the colours on the pattern - the jade green would look amazing!! £39.99 available here (in 3 different colours).

This one is much simpler and definitely a wardrobe staple. Tan coloured cardigan from Forever 21 – long enough to cover the bum but not as long as the above one, so would need some looser trousers. But easy enough to throw on when you need something quick! I bought it a few weeks ago so should still be in shops & costs £14.99 if I remember correctly! I think black and tan looks amazing so a black hijab with this would look super classy!

And lastly.. I love cable knits. This was my ice skating outfit (don’t you love winter!) – as it's short, the trousers have to be fairly loose. I wore this cream jumper with grey trousers from Urban Outfitters. The jumper is from American Eagle Outfitters bought on one of my US trips, but it's quite basic so you should be able to find something similar on the high street. Here is one example from Forever 21 for just £10!! Bargain. Or a cardigan version in the picture below and online here (I really need to get one of those!). With hijab I would have matched it with something neutral like this from Monsoon (see pic below). I hope you like the geek glasses!! They are actually my real glasses…I had laser eye surgery earlier in the year so I don’t need them now, but I am going to replace the lenses with non-prescriptive ones cos they are a great funky look sometimes!

If you want any more suggestions, check out one of my previous posts on some cardigans and jumpers I bought from Forever 21 too - the royal blue one here is one of my favs, and definitely brightens up any dreary morning!! May still be in stores, but anything that colour is a win for me!
