Last week one of my nearest and dearest got married! What a joyful and beautiful occasion this was mashallah. 
For the wedding I eventually opted to wear an Asian dress (I was in great debate for weeks whether to go Western, Middle Eastern or Asian).
As it was a wedding of a really close friend it was also a great excuse to go all out!
The tricky part was that it was going to be a mixed wedding, which meant I had to be careful with fitting and shape and I also had to remain covered i.e. hair and arms.
The dress I went for was purple, green and bronze. It was £300 from an Asian boutique store on Soho road Birmingham. The scarf (forgive me if I am saying this wrong ‘dupatah’) was too transparent to cover my hair, so my next mission was to find a hijab which matched. I actually ordered a purple one online for £20 (which for me completely exceeds my hijab budget!) I was desperate for a match! However once it arrived the colour clashed with the suit (bad times). I eventually realised I had a forest green scarf (in my collection of 100’s of Hijabs) that matched well with the detail on the sleeves - so panic over!
I used two hijabs for my design, a bronze one underneath and because I wanted a hooded effect with the green hijab, I swooped this over. I did this design because I have a bit of a pea head (lol) and sometimes I don’t think tight scarf’s suit me well. I also wanted a
central head piece and remember how much I loved 'Kim Kardashian’s' head jewellery on her wedding, so to go for a similar effect I bought a necklace in Warehouse on sale for £4!
The way I fixed this, was to use the bronze hijab as the base, I threaded through safety pins in the chain of the necklace and pinned in (with the help of my sister). This actually remained really secure all day. If you ever want to copy a similar look, you will need a double layer of hijab or band underneath to pin against, it’s easy to place as the chains work perfectly to grip on to. I do think this is a great look for weddings and special events!
To round up the whole look the shoes are from Aldo (still in store click here) for £65.
My little sister Hanan went traditional with an Arabic gold and orange dress from the UAE. I am a massive fan of orange, so I adore this dress! As the colour orange dominated she went for a soft cream and gold hijab. Similar to mine, she used the cream hijab as a base and layered the gold chiffon to create a hood effect.
She looked a delight!
